Copenhagen, December the 12th
Reading newspapers from different country (if an English version is available), I got the idea that people have no chance to have the right picture of what happened in Copenhagen last Saturday.
We were so many people that I could not see an end to the demonstration. I stopped few times to buy a coffee to warm the cold afternoon, or take a break, or running front way to reach friends of mine: all around me it was simply a river of people. Smiles, music, strong motivation, very nice manners from everyone.
I have not seen a single episode of violence or rudeness. After the passage of 100.000 people (police itself admitted even more), the streets were clean! More than the average street in city like Milan or Rome.
But the police arrested somehow 1.100 people. All from the end of demonstration. In fact, still four hours later the first groups started to walk the way to Bella Center, still there were people in front of the Parliament, waiting to start their walk as well.
My feeling is that police, from all over the World, has to terrorize the people who go in the street, demonstrating for a common ideal, asking for a fair future and sustainable system, a fair economy and a hope for the new generations to a decent future, and the same chances we had to a satisfactory life.
This is scaring, huh? How may people would share this ideals? If more and more follow us and start to demonstrate in the street as well, our governments will have to deal with real problems, give real answers, and take action to stop, for example, what we generally call “Global Warming” (bit naive…). That probably means to endanger the profit of the corporations behind them.
That, in my opinion, is the reason why they arrested more than one thousand people, the most of which totally peaceful. How can you, otherwise, justify one thousand of arrest in that contest?
